What it is

The starting point of a life of exploration.

The Barcelona Explorers Camp brings STEAM and life skills to life through hands-on activities, teamwork and immersive experiences. Participants learn from leading academics and professionals, take on real challenges, and explore key sites such as the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the ALBA Synchrotron and the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park — in a city that is a global reference in science, technology and culture.

Real ecosystems, experiential learning.

Every day mixes expert talks, practical workshops and visits that push students beyond the classroom — from supercomputers and synchrotron light to biomedical labs, design and the arts.

An international group of peers turns the week into a shared adventure, opening up vocations, friendships and a broader view of the world.

Track 01Two weeks

STEAM: foundations and the technologies of the future.

The broadest track. A first week strengthens the essentials; a second week explores the innovations transforming the world — all grounded in Barcelona's research and industry.

Students taking part in a hands-on science activity

Week 1 — Core STEM foundations

Mathematics for science and engineering, fundamentals of physics and engineering, an introduction to life sciences and biotechnology, environmental science and sustainability, the history of scientific revolutions, and data science and its applications.

Week 2 — Technological innovations

Artificial intelligence and machine learning, biotechnology, robotics and automation, renewable energy, 3D printing, cybersecurity, virtual and augmented reality, photonics, the Internet of Things and space science.

Mornings

Core STEM sessions through engaging lectures and group-based learning.

Afternoons

Debates on emerging topics, guest lectures from scientists, and experiential visits to research institutes and science hubs.

Evenings

Shared dinners followed by group activities such as science quizzes or hackathons.

Signature visits: Barcelona Supercomputing Center · ALBA Synchrotron · CosmoCaixa · 3D HP Worldwide Hub · PRBB · Pier01 · Collserola Tower.

Track 02One week

Biomedicine: at the crossroads of science and purpose.

A week-long journey through the fields shaping the future of human health — inspiring site visits, hands-on workshops and conversations with leading scientists. Each day pairs a scientific theme with a real institutional visit and a reflection on the ethics and purpose of science.

More than a science camp

Participants gain first-hand insight into neuroscience, bioinformatics, biomedical innovation, cancer research and global health — and are encouraged to see themselves as future changemakers who use knowledge, empathy and purpose to make a real impact.

The week is fully adaptable: themes, visits and speakers can be tuned to the group's level and interests.

Day 1

The brain & healthy aging. Neuroscience, Alzheimer's research and prevention.

Pasqual Maragall Foundation · Barcelonaβeta

Day 2

When code meets cells. Bioinformatics and how AI helps discover new treatments.

Barcelona Supercomputing Center · MareNostrum

Day 3

From idea to impact. Biomedical innovation and entrepreneurship; pitch your own idea.

Barcelona Science Park · Biocat

Day 4

Rethinking cancer. Personalised medicine and next-generation therapies.

Hospital research & IDIBAPS

Day 5

Global health. Equity and justice in research; how would you prioritise?

Track 03One week

Artificial Intelligence: from idea to your own project.

Students come to understand what AI is, how it is already changing the world, and how to apply it themselves — through a practical experience they can show and reuse. The week builds towards a real, working team project.

Learn it by building it

From the basics of machine learning and generative AI to hands-on development with accessible tools, each team shapes a project of its own — a chatbot, a text summariser, a creative generator — with technical and creative support along the way.

The result: a functional project, an understanding of the key concepts, and an experience students can point to in future applications and interviews.

Day 1

What is AI? Foundations, machine learning and generative AI, and why it matters — with real, surprising examples.

Day 2

AI in the real world. An inspiring guest talk, then team ideation of a project you could build.

Day 3

Hands to work. First lines of code and experiments with AI models using accessible tools.

Day 4

Refine & personalise. Improve the project, add features and prepare the final demo.

Day 5

Demo Day. Each team presents its project; a shared reflection closes the week.
